​Laurie Smith is from Iowa and became a Texan when she moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 1984. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, a Master's of Science degree in Nursing Administration and a Post Master’s Certificate for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner all from the University of Texas in Arlington. She has worked in healthcare since 1992 with people of all ages. As a registered nurse, her experience is vast and includes work in a pediatric intensive care unit, in an inpatient burn unit, in home health care, in a pediatric emergency department and in hospice and palliative care for both adults and children. She has also worked at Cook Children's in Advocacy and Injury Prevention and as a Project Manager and Clinical Liaison at Children's Health, Dallas.

As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, she has special interests in trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, weight management, ADHD, alcohol and other substance use disorders. Pittman Psychiatry and Recovery was proud to bring her on in 2019. In addition to her work with us, Laurie still holds a part-time position at Children’s Health in Dallas. She also volunteers as a grief facilitator at the Warm Place in Fort Worth and works in the Victims Assistance Program in Mansfield. She is the proud mother of three adult children and two dogs, and she loves hiking, cycling, and volunteering in the community.

Katie Brandon completed her first undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas studying Business Administration with a concentration in Business Management.  She then pursued a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. Katie completed her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is board certified in both Family Practice and Psychiatry/Mental Health. Mrs. Brandon currently pursing a certification in Obesity Medicine. 

Katie's previous healthcare experience as a registered nurse includes four years in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit and two years in the Emergency Department at Texas Health Resources in Fort Worth from 2011 to 2017. As a nurse practitioner, Katie has worked at inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities providing both medical and psychiatric care for men and women recovering from addiction. She became an integral part of Pittman Psychiatry & Recovery where she serves as a Nurse Practitioner under the leadership of Dr. Julie Pittman in 2017.
